Research on Artificial
Intelligence (AI) has advanced rapidly over the past years.  Nowadays, we are
provided with technology that can help us in our daily activities.  Technology players, such as: Microsoft, Google, and IBM, have embedded
AI in their solutions and services for their customers.  Self-driving cars,
therapy recommendations, and virtual
assistants have shown the promising
capacity in the AI implementation.  The
use of AI to discover and fix bugs automatically or semi-automatically would also
be an interesting direction.  Mastering AI skills are essential to solving current issues that we are faced with in a wide variety of fields.

My
purpose for applying to graduate school is to broaden my
knowledge on the AI.  I have a desire to
develop a system, embedded with AI, which can
make a difference in people’s lives.  I have engineered an offline Learning Management
System, using an old-school technique, with a synchronization capability to its
online system that allows a student to study with no boundaries, such as
internet connection.  Currently, working
at the University of Kentucky HealthCare
has brought me one step closer to achieving my goal.  I have harnessed the structured information
based on different Healthcare subject areas (diagnoses, medication) from
unstructured data available via notes (clinical, pathology report) in patients’
electronic medical records by using NLP technique in pre-screening patients
that could be potentials for the cancer clinical trial.  I have developed Clinical Decision Support
Analytics tools for Pharmacists and Physicians to improve health outcomes,
decrease adverse effects, and limit antimicrobial resistance.

The University of
Kentucky will enable me to achieve my goals by furthering my Computer Science
education through the specialized area offered.  I am intrigued that your program emphasizes a
curriculum specifically tailored to my goals.  I am confident that the application of various
AI theories that this program exposes its students to will guide my growth and
development as a graduate student and individual.  I would be excited to have the opportunity to
observe and participate in research activities.
 Through the required coursework,
projects, research, and other experiences, I believe that the University of
Kentucky will provide me with the tools I need
to achieve my career goals.

When I was in college, I
was actively participated in many student and extracurricular activities and
joined a humanitarian organization, The Red Cross Society.  At the same time, I also worked as a
part-time employee, that provides valuable job experience.  Despite doing all these activities
simultaneously, I was able to graduate on time with, I believe, an excellent
GPA.  I also have a high level of
curiosity about something new. It could be an emerging technology or could be a
new skill that can support me to achieve my goals. For instance, when I wanted
to integrate our Learning Management System with Microsoft cloud services
([email protected]), I had to do some research since there were not enough resources
provided and made a prototype.  Last but
not least, I can be too focused on my works and want them to be finished ahead of schedule that sometimes I
find myself working until late night.  In addition, I love to help my colleagues that
sometimes I see myself having to put in more hours in a week just to complete
my required duties.

Having
said that, I believe with the combination of commitment,
perseverance, creativity, compassionate character, and my experience and my background
in Computer Science; I will be successful to perform the duties of a graduate student efficiently.  I am
strongly dedicated to the achievement of my professional objectives, and I
believe the University of Kentucky is the
perfect environment for me to accomplish those goals.  I am confident that if given the opportunity
to participate in your Computer Science program I will achieve my ultimate
goal.
